Rumah Kecil

Established since 2014, Rumah Kecil School has grown as a learning community shaped by care for children, for learning, and for the environment. Our educational approach is rooted in the belief that children learn best when they feel heard, respected, and free to explore. We blend local values with global perspectives, encouraging children to engage with real-life experiences and their natural surroundings.

Learning at Rumah Kecil is guided by three key principles or pillars: Dialogue, where children develop empathy and awareness through meaningful communication; Student-Centered Learning, which nurtures independence through collaboration, self-progress learning, and active participation; and Play-Based Exploration, where imagination and curiosity lead the way. These three pillars shape a daily rhythm that is purposeful, joyful, and responsive to each child's growth.

Our Campus

The campus has been designed with the environment in mind. We have crafted a design concept that embraces nature, and provides a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere for students to learn in. The distinctive buildings made from earth and wood, provide cool and well-ventilated classrooms for all students. Students are encouraged actively involved in our recycling program.

We aspire to live an environmentally mindful life with a low carbon footprint and provide vegetarian, organic and local friendly food. We want to teach children as well as the community, how to live a life in harmony with nature and that showing respect for our environment enhances the quality of our live.

The campus design, by its layout makes the school simple to use and easy to maintain. Built-in eco-friendly features and systems, such as filtered-water processing, a bio gas converter (soon), jungle gym, tree house, hobbit house, fruits, trees, vegetables growing throughout the campus and our mini-garden enable us to teach by example, to show children how waste can be recycled for another use. We also teach children how to grow vegetables without pesticides.

We believe that success in life is derived not only from a sharp intellect but also from the ability to communicate skilfully, overcome difficulties, know how to manage the emotion and how to make choices based on wisdom, compassion and understanding. We also aim to teach children as well as the community to care more about the nature and showing respect for our environment.

Mission

At Rumah Kecil School, we:

  1. We respect our students as individual learners

What Makes Us Different

Our Security and Safety Management

To secure our environment and to make sure your children safety we put several surveillance cameras. All of our staffs have passed First Aid Training and Disaster Management assisted by the official Bodies in Bali. Those activities held as our commitment to attain a good standard of security and disaster management. For your child safety, we also provide medical staff assistant.

Cloth Diaper and Toilet Training

Rumah Kecil use cloth diaper for kids below 2 or those who aren't potty train yet. This makes it easy to let the babies out of diapers as they get the feeling of wee and doodoo.

Highly absorbing paper diapers are petrochemical product. Using them for long time will let the skin absorb chemical substance harmful to the body. We believe paper diapers must be avoided as much as possible.

We can help your children to do toilet training during their time at Rumah Kecil.

Structure

Rumah Kecil is using joglo house to be the main building. A concrete structure or tiled floor takes away body heat causing the children to feel cold and tired. While wood, which adjusts to humidity and temperature as it breathes. is better for the body.

We used environmental friendly building material and designed Rumah kecil to be a comfortable place with a lot of sunshine and air.

Meal

Food plays a large part in building senses, emotions and thinking. We see food as an important part of children's growth. Here in Rumah kecil, we only serve healthy and safe food for the children.

We cook without MSG, we also use organic vegetables, small amount of meat, only sometimes we use chicken.

Rumah kecil provide homemade healthy food based in Japanese home cooking.

Journal Book

At Rumah Kecil, we believe that every child’s journey is unique and worth cherishing. That’s why we prepare a Journal Book for each child, created by teachers as a reflection of their learning and growth throughout the term or semester.

The Journal Book captures children’s progress, interests, and experiences at school—showing not only what they have learned, but also what they enjoy, how they interact, and how they are developing day by day.

At the end of each term, the Journal Book is shared with parents as a way to celebrate their child’s journey at Rumah Kecil. It also serves as a meaningful record and keepsake for families, preserving memories of the children’s school life.

Together with families, we hope the Journal Book becomes a bridge of communication and encouragement as we support children in their growth and discovery.

Eco-friendly day care

We avoid using chemicals for washing agents used in Rumah Kecil. We use organic soap, baking soda and soap nuts which are friendly to the environment and human body.

Trash is sorted and collected by Eco Bali, a company dedicated to achieving a cleaner environment by promoting waste separation and recycling.

We want to help make Bali a cleaner place by using, among other things, glasses made from used wine bottles. We want to start from what we can.

We use a special water purification system to ensure the safety of the children, and Bio-system water waste where we recycle parts of our water system and use it again to water the garden.

Program Pool/Tree House

Our facilities includes a 8 meter x 5 meter swimming pool with 60 cm depth, suitable for children above 2 years old. We also have a tree house coming up soon.

Program Nature Play

We value outdoor play very much at our school. We believe nature is the best teacher and children can learn many things for example about the creatures, team work, problem solving and communication by being in the nature.
